The inhabitants of a frontier village organize night patrols to reject immigrants who cross the river and try to "invade" their land. However, one night a clandestine manages to get through, but he is captured. Within a single day, and in one claustrophobic space, where the latent presence of the clandestine is evoked in any moment, a small group of bourgeois (the merchant and his wife, the mechanic and his daughter, the doctor, a young skinhead and a crazy fanatic) discuss about what to do, explaining their reasons: they act this way because they want to defend themselves, because they are afraid, and mad. In this way, a cruel picture of the contemporary society is depicted, showing the dark side of our soul of privileged citizens. This play deals with topical issues with a free and original style, within the framework of a country like Italy, where immigration is characterized by harsh and unexpected outcomes. The minimalist staging is based on color contrasts and on the frenzy that accompanies the characters' speeches, managing to convey to the audience a sense of uneasiness and guilt which represents today’s tragedy.

I Chiassosi theatre company is composed by students belonging to the Italian Studies Division; it is directed by professor Evelyne Donnarel and it was founded in 1992 following the diffusion of the Italian language and culture. This company works in partnerships with artists from the show business: Jean-Claude Bastos (director and set designer) and a group of sound and light technicians. I Chiassosi performs a show in Italian language every year.
Being a University theatre company, this company has educational purposes: it provides its students with acting techniques (voice, moves, how to create a character, etc…), allows a dynamic approach to the theatrical text and a specific approach to the Italian artistic culture. This company carries out research on innovative stage solutions and its students have the opportunity to study both the textual and the stage approach.
It is important to note that, on the basis of a deep scientific research, this Company has always selected unpublished texts or texts that were not well known in France. During the past years, the Company has published its translations and has organized a number of debates and conferences dealing with Italian drama.
